U14, P2 Describe focus of a chosen radio station

BBC Radio 4 is a British National radio station which is owned by the BBC. It is a broadcasting service with a wide range of languages. They have many channels including news, drama, comedy, science and history. Channel 4 gets no public funding, it is funded by its own commercial activities, most of the income comes from advertising revenue. It began in March 2002, and the slogan was 'everybody needs a place to think'. 

RAJARS roles is to provide a measurement of all different radio audiences in the UK. The figure shown are 49.5 million which is 89% of adults that listen to the radio each week. The total average number of listeners weekly hours listened are 1.004 billion.

The main target audience is adults aged over 35 and have a balanced audinence which are 49% male and 51% female. They have different types of programmes on BBC radio 4 such as focusing more of Christianity.

The shows are mostly for an older audience and educated people, this is because they are mostly about news channels and this would link to the older audience.
